Independent Graphics, Inc. was recently recognized in Printing Manager, the publication for the National Association for Printing Leadership (NAPL), for being named the 2002 Small Business of the Year by The Greater Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Business and Industry. Independent Graphics, a member of the NAPL, was nominated for the award by two of its customers.

"The number one priority throughout our organization is to ‘hustle’ for the customer," Lou Ciampi, Jr., vice president of Independent Graphics, explained in the article. "It sounds simple, but it’s a highly effective strategy – it’s what distinguishes us from the competition and helps us keep our existing customers and attract new ones."

The family-owned and operated company employs 25 including many family members. Ciampi, Jr. joined the firm in 1986 and prior to his current role as vice president served as the company’s sales manager. Jim Ciampi is the company’s customer service manager. Independent Graphics customers can be found in eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York. As the company has grown, it has positioned itself to meet the changing needs of customers and the changes in the printing industry. But it is the company’s commitment to customers that truly sets it apart.

The National Association for Printing Leadership is a not-for-profit trade association serving the commercial printing industry since 1933. Headquartered in Paramus, NJ, it provides its members with educational services, events and products to help them enhance their management proficiency and increase their profitability.

Independent Graphics began as a one-man operation in 1980 printing stationary and envelopes. It wasn’t long before Lou Ciampi, Sr. moved the business to its present 8,500 square foot location on River Road in Pittston, PA. The tenets upon which Lou Sr. founded the business – customer service, fairness and quality products – continue today and have resulted in steady growth that is entering its third decade. Independent Graphics is now a four-color production house printing manuals, brochures, catalogues, stationary and envelopes. Its services also include desktop, pre-press and bindery.
